“. . . for they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them, and the mountains quaked; and their corpses were as refuse in the midst of the streets.”
– Isaiah 5:24
“And he will destroy the glory of his [Assyrian] forest and orchard and it will be like the wasting away of one who is sick. And the rest of the trees of his forest will be a small number, and a boy can write them down.”
– Isaiah 10:18-19
If He chastised His Israel for their sins and if He punished the nations for their wrongdoings, what do you think will make He hesitate to smite us for our transgressions? Surely, Jesus has paid it all and made us Father’s sons and daughters. Yet, it’s from sons and daughters rod of discipline will not depart. As the writer of Hebrew says, the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives (Heb. 12:6).
